Over the past year I believe I have developed not only in the technical aspects that are required for Art,  like drawing ability, use of media etc, but I have also developed as an artist. I posses a real passion for my work and I strongly believe that Art is a lifestyle, rather than just a subject.

The initial direction for my work was portraiture, self portraiture in particular, as I’d never really explored it before. I began in the Traditional sense, looking into a mirror and sketching myself analytically, I swiftly moved on from analytical drawing and began to investigate intensity of line combined with self portraiture. From this idea I produced an array of mapping pen and ink sketches from photos of myself, and a selection of work from Egon Schiele, Alberto Giacometti, Frank Auerbach and Oskar Kokoschka who all influenced my work tremendously. After doing this I was introduced to PVA and Acrylic applied through a tube, this affect gave a very free flowing feel to my work, complimenting my initial topic of intense line and also giving it that expressionistic feel I desired.

After looking at the work of Chrissy Angliker and the way in which she manipulated her materials to give it that dripped affect and also retain the original image in the piece influenced me greatly. It inspired me to add colour to my work and adapt her techniques but in my own way of working.

My work is very abstract and I think this has a lot to do with my desire to create. Art should generate emotion within its audience, whether it’s negative or positive. I put everything into my work, and have a strong passion for expressionism which I believe is reflected in my Portfolio. In my opinion doing a Fine Art Degree will be the next step on a life long journey to create.
